How to reset OV

How does Over-voltage protection work?

The purpose of over-voltage protection is to prevent your sensitive electronics from being exposed to voltages higher than the maximum safety voltage, which is typically greater than the working voltage. Our EX/EP models enable you to set an over-voltage protection level. If the power supply detects a voltage at its terminals that exceeds this level, it enters over-voltage protection mode (OV mode) and turns off the output. Meanwhile, the OV light illuminates to indicate that the power supply is in OV mode.

Once the power supply enters in OV mode, it will not produce any output and will not respond to any adjustments made using the knobs until it is reset by power cycling.

Please note that the high voltage sensed by our power supply may be generated either internally or externally.

How do I reset a power supply in OV protected state?

To reset a power supply in an OV protected state, first disconnect the load from the power supply. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Turn the power supply off.
  2. Locate the trim pot for OV set that controls the over-voltage setting. It is located in a small hole in the center between the knobs. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to turn this trim pot to the maximum position clockwise.
  3. Turn the coarse current knob to 1/4 of the way up
  4. Without any load connected, turn on the power supply and adjust the voltage using the two knobs on the right.
  5. If you can be adjusted the voltage from zero to the maximum for the your model, then the unit is functioning normally.
